Aloha, I'm Katie. Welcome to Hānai Hives, a journey born from humble beginnings rooted in the heart of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. My passion for bees was ignited in the most unexpected way — through my children's elementary school garden program.
It was during a screening of a poignant documentary on the challenges faced by bees that our commitment took flight. Moved by the urgency to act, we formed a close-knit community, and with the serendipitous support of the seasoned beekeeper Mr. Glenn Perry, we ventured into the world of beekeeping.
Now, with an empty nest as my children venture into the world, I tend to a buzzing family of over 100 beehives, nurtured with the unwavering support of my Hānai Hives ʻOhana.

Why Hānai Hives
We are a premier Hawaiʻi-based apiary and home to Oʻahu's first Host-A-Hive program.
Tucked along Oʻahu's North Shore, our apiary is home to a buzzing family of more than 100 hives. Whether you join us for a tour or welcome a hive of your own, you'll learn the art and science of beekeeping from a seasoned beekeeper — and leave with a deeper connection to the ʻāina that sustains us all.

Where to begin?
Contact us! We’d love to answer any questions you have. If you decide a HĀNAI HIVE seems right for you, we’ll schedule a time to meet up to plan next steps.
What to expect?
If you’d like you to HĀNAI a hive on your property, we’ll meet at your location to assess the space. If it’s a good fit for you and the bees, we’ll make a plan for placement and schedule a moving day! If you prefer to HĀNAI a Hive at one of our apiaries, we’ll meet there.
Moving Day!
If you HĀNAI a hive at your property, we’ll come just after dusk when all the bees are in their box and set up your hive. If you HĀNAI a Hive at one of our apiaries, your bees will be waiting for you! And… the journey begins!
